A Tribute to Chief Solomon Lar.Chief Solomon Lar was one of the founding fathers of Peoples Democratic Party and the pioneer Chairman. Lar stood to be counted among other nationalists and brave statesmen who refused to keep quiet while the nation was getting close to the precipice.It was his group which midwifed the formation of the PDP.He led the PDP to electoral victories in 1999.In a sense,he laid the foundation for the strong resilient and vibrant political party which the PDP is today.Chief Lar was an exemplary leader,a practising christian,a quintessential statesman,a politician and bridge builder,an architect of the democracy we are enjoying today.Chief Lar was an open minded,fearless,dogged and a resolute fighter for the right of the oppressed and the less priviledged.A great family man and disciplinarian.He was a distribalised personality and politican who always preached peace,unity and Godiness,he shared whatever he had to people around and was not into accumulating of property which explained why he lived in a rented house in Abuja as national chairman of PDP and even after such a position.My contact with him in December, 1993 during one of my uncles wedding in Jos which he married from Lar family and we were hosted by Lar in his house plateau state made me concor that he was not into accumulating of wealth and property for someone that had even been a governor of a state before my visitation.Lar was an Icon in political firmament,a true patriot a committed democrat,a politicians politician.May God give his immediate family to bear this loss and the current crisis rocking PDP his death would bring lasting peace to the PDP and Nigeria.
