A Tribute to a Great General – Mohammad Abdul Ahad A few words for the departed soul, well known Ahad Bhai: The one and only, a self made man; an Officer & Gentleman; one who achieved success through hard work and ingenuity, rather than any inherited fortune, family connections or other privilege. I first met Ahad Bhai when he visited me in my Abbottabad School. Ahad Bhai was getting his training in Military Academy of Kakul. His colleague, Capt Gohar Ayub Khan (Ret’d) was with him and he introduced us to his uncle, Sardar Bahudur Khan, a graduate from Aligarh, a man who had donated his land to build our School and lived on top of a hill. I then met Ahad Bhai’s family; refined, sophisticated & cultured from Lukhnow, India. Growing up in Rawalpindi we saw how Ahad Bhai was liked by leading Generals, to whom he served as an ADC. Late Mohammad Ayub Khan was very impressed with him and on many occasions asked for his assistance. In 1978, living in New York, I visited Pakistan. Ahad Bahi was living next Gen Yahya Khan. Gen Iqbal, No 2, was his close associate. Pervez Musharraf was his junior. He was also secretary of golf club & was an excellent golf player. . It was good to see Ahad Bhai was doing so well. Later on when I got back to New York I heard that Ahad Bhai bid farewell to Pakistan Army. I was very surprised. He was respectful to his elders, especially to my parents.. He was also good to his juniors. Always helped couples in reconciliation. He will always be remembered and remain in our hearts as a Big Brother and a great family man. Lets pray faithfully for the departed soul for eternal and ever lasting life. O Allah SWAT, forgive any wrongs and welcome him into warm embrace of Your ending peace.
