A U.S. Marshal spokesperson told the West River Eagle today that the incident that resulted in one man dead and another in custody began with one car and a routine traffic stop that would not pull over but ended with two cars involved plus law enforcement. Jason Todd Garreau is now in custody and charged in connection to the standoff in Pierre after he escaped the original pursuit at some point after the deceased entered the chase in his own vehicle.
