A Uhrichsville-area man died Sunday after his motorcycle was hit from behind by a car on U.S. Route 250 near Uhrichsville. Kirk A. Triplett, 49, of 7408 Moravian Trail Road SE, was transported to Trinity Hospital Twin City in Dennison, where he later was pronounced dead, according to state troopers at the New Philadelphia Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol. Triplett was riding his 2012 Harley-Davidson motorcycle and had stopped at a traffic light on the highway between McCauley Drive and U.S. Route 36. James R. Hanshaw Jr., 35, of 608 Grant St., Dennison, also was driving in the right lane of the highway when his 2000 Lincoln LS car struck the motorcycle, ejecting Triplett, who wasn’t wearing a helmet. Sgt. Gary Wolfe said that troopers are investigating driver inattention by Hanshaw as a contributing factor to the crash at 3:05 p.m. Hanshaw was wearing a seat belt. He sustained minor injury and was checked at the scene by ambulance personnel. Uhrichsville and Dennison police assisted at the scene. Ohio Department of Transportation personnel also responded. Both southbound lanes of the highway into Uhrichsville were closed for nearly three hours. The crash remains under investigation and a report will be sent to the Tuscarawas County prosecutor.
