A Unique New Guinea Endemic and Vulnerable Parrot. Hi PNG, today I bring to you a brief fact file of a culturally significant bird that may go extinct if we do not conserve it. The Vulturine or Pesquets Parrot (Psittrichas fulgidus) is a hihgly sought after bird for its brilliant red plummage. It is found in the lower and mid-montane ranges of PNG (800-1200m asl). The IUCN Red list of endangered species has placed it in the VULNERABLE category which means it may fall to being threatened. It is a highly specialized frugivorous diet mostly on figs and soft fleshy fruits. For aspiring biologists, especially if you are thinking of ornithology, this is a bird worth vouching for!
