A United States map sponsored by Norman Orr Office Supply in West Plains will give visitors to the 19th Old-Time Music, Ozark Heritage Festival the opportunity to show where they are from. “Every year, festival organizers ask attendees to complete surveys and comment cards in an effort to learn if improvements are needed and to evaluate the cultural tourism reach of this annual event,” organizers said. “This year, in addition to filling out the surveys, we will be asking visitors to put a pin in the map to mark their hometowns.” The map will be displayed in the West Plains Civic Center lobby near the festival information tables. Visitors can stop by the table, fill out a survey and put a pin in the map, organizers said. “We have learned that people come to the Old-Time Music, Ozark Heritage Festival for many reasons,” organizers explained. “There will be folks from Texas who have to hear their favorite musical group one more time, or a mule aficionado from Oregon who wants to witness the mule jump competition, or a family from Dexter, Mo., who travels each year to enjoy all the events. Even family reunions are scheduled around the festival. “We hope this project will provide a visual display of what we’ve seen over the past 19 years, that there are far-reaching affects to this type of event in a community that go beyond local appeal.” The person who travels the farthest to attend this year’s event will receive a weather radio offered by Howell Oregon Electric Co-Operative in West Plains, organizers said.
