A Universe with God (Love) By Paul Ross If you took love out of the universe then all traces of kindness, compassion, empathy, altruism and grace would be gone. Without love people would interact with each other with zero kindness, compassion and empathy. In fact if love was missing from the universe we would perceive each other as having no value at all. A soul without love - no matter how many possessions that soul acquired - would be poorer than a rat in a gutter. For in a universe with no love all interactions between people would be nothing more than meaningless interactions between matter, time and space - signifying nothing. But the universe is not like that. Its just not that kind of reality. Jesus revealed that love was the highest and most transcendent phenomena of reality. This phenomenon that we experience and call love is not the ingenuity of our own manufacturing. We are contingent beings; we are dependent upon things that make for our existence. We channel and transmit love back and forth between each other but we are not the locus or source of this love. Any love that we do experience between other people first has its source in Him. We can no more deny nor suppress this fact of our everyday existence/experience than we can deny our need for air or water. Love is not our idea, its Gods. We are the branches in a great tree, and God is the roots and soil from which we experience what makes for our existence. In rejecting God we are not rejecting an unnecessary optional extra in life, but rather the soil and roots that nourish the branches of existence itself. There are those that deny God a place in the plan of their lives but they cannot escape the existential hunger that makes being human valuable and meaningful – nor can they ultimately escape the gravitational attraction to love. In the end the soul shall find out that in rejecting God one was always invariably trying to escape from the fountain and source of Divine love – the roots and soil from which all human love paradoxically spring forth.
