A University is being rebuilt 821 years after it was destroyed by a few jokers, who are only remembered in history for their destructive mindset. It is not necessary to name them and thus giving them any extra importance. Being the oldest University of the world (other than Taxila University), Nalanda was built 649 years before (439 AD) the first University in Europe, Universita di Bologna (1088 AD) in Italy. During 7th century, the University was the place of study for 10,000 students and 2000 teachers. It was the epicenter of learning in the whole world. The so called birthplace of the idea of India. Full credit goes to 4 great people: ex-President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, Nobel Laureate Prof. Dr. Amartya Kumar Sen, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar and ex-PM Dr. Manmohan Singh. Also special thanks to the Govt. of Japan, China and Korea for their great support. Today is perhaps the greatest day of Human Civilization as again the corridors of this great University will be reverberated with the great discussions, debates on the subjects of learning. One thing my grandfather, who was a Head master in a school and was awarded by the Indian Government for his pioneering work in the spread of Education in the Refugee areas, used to say, When in the evening I walk down the dimly lit lanes of the refugee colony and listen to the hymns of the children studying textbooks in the oil lamp, I think the God is being worshiped. There is no greater worship of God than Education. It is told, when Nalanda was burnt down in 1139, the fire in the library did not extinguish for a few months. Actually that fire did not extinguish in the mind of the scholars till now even after 821 years. The burning desire of resurrection of a new Institution out of the Ashes of the older one is finally materialized today. Fundamentalism is defeated.
