A VERY common misconception is caloric maintenance vs a caloric deficit. Often times a range of kcals can be considered maintenance levels meaning that you will be able to not lose and or gain on a certain range of kcals it takes dropping below the lower end of the maintenance range for most in order to be able to lose calories. So just because you are able to maintain your current weight on say 2000 calories a day does not mean that just by dropping to 1800 will yield the results you want.
