A VIEW FROM THE HEART January 12, 2015 I came home last night - TopicsExpress

A VIEW FROM THE HEART January 12, 2015 I came home last night from Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage, four days after triple bypass heart surgery. To say I was surprised (by the need for it, and the speed), is an understatement. Some observations that rang true (or became even truer) for me: 1- NEVER underestimate my health...never. Be grateful for the body I have, in whatever condition it is today...work to make it better. 2- NEVER underestimate the kindness of others, whether theyre being paid for it or not. Thats not what determines whether they are truly kind or not. Value every single small kindness from every source, and do not let them pass without notice. 3- NEVER stop reminding myself to be grateful for what I DO have, and not for what I dont. The other way around never works. When will I learn that lesson? 4- Listen patiently to everyone, but try to listen most to the advice of others who obviously know better than me...smarty-pants! :) 5- Do your best to stay calm, try to listen hard to your own voice. Others may be louder, thats all. 6- BALANCE Nothing (or next to nothing) in this world is truly black or white. Learn to appreciate (maybe even, enjoy?) grey. Besides, whats the option? And finally, an update on my health: 1- Its great. Everything was -- very fortunately -- caught before ANY damage was done. 2- My recuperation will be 3-4 weeks at home, relaxing (imagine me doing that!), followed by some out-patient cardiac rehab physical therapy. 3- And after that, watch out! As a friend said a few days ago, You already had the energy of a ferret on meth before all this. What now? Be afraid, be very afraid. Thanks first to my loving husband, Ron, for all he did...and will have to do over the next month! Thanks to my family and hundreds of friends, whose outpouring of love and concern was truly overwhelming. (A special shout-out to Allan H Jensen, who drove 112 miles each way on an overnight trip to visit me at the hospital...I love you!) And to the wonderful Team at Eisenhower Medical Center...I hope you never need them, but if you do, they rock! See you soon, some of you at Calcommen Community Camp, Feb 13-16. Registration is newly OPEN at calcommen/#!get_involved/c1yzj, and limited to 100 wonderful men! Hugs, B
