A VOCAL COACHS RANT. We Vocal Coaches have a task on our hands and it is difficult. A client comes to you and says teach me to sing correctly. We teach you the fundamentals, give you the exercises and instruct you to go home and practice everyday. The problem is you come back next session and indicate you have not practised. Then you blame us when your voice does not go through the positive transitions. Or you go home and do the wrong thing and we have to come and unlearn you. Its a task. I advise my clients that it is better to do 1/2 hour everyday than try to pack your practice into one day just before you come to session. Chris Beatty has taught that PRACTICE MAKES PERMANENT. Please remain focused when you come for sessions so that you would take the right thing home. Also know that clients possess different levels ( from ear issues to vocal issues) Dont come with major flaws and expect to end up singing like Celine Dion please be real. Another thing DONT TAKE VOCAL TRAINING IF YOU DO NOT PLAN TO SING OR SPEAK! You dont invest all your money to sing in the bath. Lastly please care your instrument (voice) Every week you have the cold, your voice is hoarse how do you expect me to coach you. We advise of the dos and dont s yet you are still always shouting at the top of your lungs, eating ice whole day and not doing what is necessary to build your immune system from flu viruses.
