A Variety Of Gardening Supplies For Every Level Of Gardener There are a variety of gardening supplies that can be useful for indoor and outdoor activities in a garden situation. Whether it be in a greenhouse, the outside garden or in nurseries, tasks such as feeding, fertilizing and controlling pests are crucial to a great supply of plants. Many gardeners use a non-fertilized soil medium for starting their seeds. Even sand and perlite may be useful for this task. As the plant grows its first set of real leaves, it can then be transplanted to a larger container, into soil that will aid their further development. It is a very personal choice as to what vegetables and fruits one will choose to grow. The choice may also be determined by the likes and dislikes of customers, if the gardener hopes to sell these plants for growing on or sell the actual produce. Seed in bulk or in small packets will be determined by these same things. Flats are a very popular container in which to start seeds, as are individual pots of various sizes. These pots can be plastic, clay or the rather handy cardboard looking pots that can be set right into the ground when they have reached their time of doing so. The roots will grow right through these containers. One of the tricks of starting seeds and having them achieve the proper growth is to place the seed medium under grow lights after planting the seeds. This will encourage short stocky growth rather than the kind produced when plants are reaching for what little light is available. These lights can be raised up as the plant nears them, to avoid burning of leaves. Moisture levels should be maintained as well. Because some plants do not care for their leaves to be wet, watering from below the soil is preferred. Placing the containers in shallow pans of some kind will accomplish this for the home grower. Greenhouses and nurseries have a larger system to work with. Despite the differences in growing situations, the issue of watering properly is still crucial. When a gardener is truly converted to doing the best job possible in their gardening activities, compost will be a subject that will come up. Using the plant debris, leaves, old potting soils and even some garden soil from the ground, creating a compost pile of some sort will aid in a happy garden. Also, as plants grow, some will require a stake of some kind to keep it neat and tidy, off of the ground. Cages of different sizes could help in that regard, too.
