A View from Above By Denise Durbin — 30 minutes ago Its been three weeks since we arrived home from Houston and Shelbys last round of treatments. There is always so much excitement in our lives, and how I long for a monotonous, slow paced life style. I havent felt like myself lately, maybe too much stress and anxiety for my body, but a week filled with doctors visits and testing. I need to shift from weakness and worrisome state to a stronger state of stillness, and Im working on that. Although Shelby is in cancer remission, she is not free of the daily reminders of illness. We did get her a new look with a haircut since she didnt lose all of her hair, and she can still wear her wigs if she like! Being a survivor is triumph and facing your fears. Surviving the disease and treatment brings about its own array of emotional challenges. Shelby is again finding her place amongst friends and getting back on track in her life, planning for college. She has been allowing herself to feel everything she has been denied in the last year. Next week I will have surgery to remove my abdominal port, and the week after we return to MD Anderson for a multitude of scans for Shelby, and genetic testing for me. Each day and week brings swirling activity, and my sister Deb is back in Henry Ford hospital for an allergic reaction to the antibiotics post surgery. WE are all positive, spiritual, warriors. Sincerely, I am thankful for the prayers that have sustained us. Still, Hold on to Hope!
