A WALK DOWN MUSICAL MEMORY LANE [Originally posted on the pioneering SALONEDiscussion forum on Sunday, Sept. 21, 2014] Good morning my SALONEDiscussion sisters and brothers on a special edition of our wildly popular regular Sunday morning feature: A Walk Down Musical Memory Lane! Today, on the final day of the greatest St. Edwards Celebration ever, we come to you, dear valued members of our forum, on a warm and cloudy day from the city of brotherly (and Ill add, sisterly) love -- Philadelphia, PA, scene of the best ever spectacular of music, food, dancing, and sports that our alumni association has ever put together! If you have not been here with us in Philly and the neighboring suburbs of New Jersey, its not too late to join the fun! This afternoon, starting at 2:30, we will conclude our 3-day Extravaganza with a triple show: First, we will have our Thanksgiving service on this holy Sunday! Then we will hold the colorful procession of Alumni in our famous colors -- royal blue and white -- that is always a crowd pleaser. Finally, we will culminate our 3-day spectacular with the event that everyone has been impatiently waiting for -- THE EDWARDIAN RECEPTION which will feature a tribute to our late, great principal, Mr. A.J. Robinson as part of a recognition of the Edwardians who passed away this year. Then, I am humbled to report, there will be the unveiling of the first update in nearly a decade to my 2005 biography, which I have the privilege of unveiling as part of my duties as this years Grand Chief Patron of the mighty St. Edwards Secondary School Alumni Associations annual celebration)! So if you are in the Washington, D.C. metro area comprising the suburbs of Maryland, Virginia, and DC itself, remember, you can still make it via a 2 -hour drive up Interstate 95 to the final celebration of what have been so far two days of the best fun and entertainment ever in the history of St. Edwards celebrations -- complete with the best fried fish and cassava bread combo I have eaten since I was last at the home of that famous Salone delicacy at Waterloo on the outskirts of Freetown (courtesy of our host culinary director, my longtime friend, Mrs. Joyce Zubairu (nee Newland) and her wonderful daughter, Sally! Speaking of Salone, here now is our featured selection for todays Walk Down Musical Memory Lane: It is a double feature showcasing perhaps the two best songs of one of SLs two best bands in the 1970s, the Super Combo Kings: Memuna and Ngombu. Check out the complex and titillating guitar riffs in the two songs and marvel at the tantalizing talent of arguably the greatest guitarist in contemporary African music and certainly the greatest guitarist SL has ever produced -- our own, late, great Freddy Greene! Here now is the Super Combo Kings 1970s masterpiece, MEMUNA: youtube/watch?v=lVninFENBg0 And as a bonus, here is the Super Combo Kings 1970s NGOMBU: youtube/watch?v=EV0Sr1qCfrA Enjoy! Best regards , Mohm
