We understand that we have to sell the house, or that mom is sick, or that the kids are rebelling. We get it; that’s our reality. But when we pray, the peace of God transcends our understanding. To transcend means to pass through. So pray and allow the peace of God to flow back into your heart and mind as a guard! I say “allow” because sometimes, even though we’re praying fervently, we’re trying all the harder to fix things on our own. Pray and allow the Lord to guard you with His peace. A guard isn’t someone who goes down without a fight, unless they’re hired cheaply. And God’s peace isn’t offered cheap – it was paid for by Christ’s blood. Adam and Eve earned us all a wall at the Garden of Eden, but Jesus tore it down at the cross. We are the ones who put these walls back up. But just as the veil was torn, the Lord shreds up our walls to get to us. What walls do you have that make it hard to receive God’s peace? Dear Lord, please give me your peace. Guard me today in peace as I live for you. Thank you for Jesus, who makes peace of mind possible. Thank you that I do not have to live in fear. Please continue to live in me, and may Your Holy Spirit protect me with calm and peace. Remind me, throughout the day, to turn and pray to you every time I’m tempted to panic. ACTION STEP Write down a list of things that give you anxiety. Next to them, write “powerless.” Keep the list with you as a reminder that nothing has the power to control you when God’s Spirit is powerfully at work in you.
