A WORKOUT IN FORGIVENESS: Every month, we in the Focolare live a sentence of the Gospel and August was all above forgiveness. My human heart, toward the end of each month, braces itself in anticipation of the next months word of life to see where God wants my heart to stretch. Because August was all about forgiveness, boy did I have a big work out and the month isnt even over yet. It is as though God was asking to forgive every minute because it also seemed that there was often something irritating or something offending my sensitive spirit. On the other hand, I too had to apologize a lot of times. I have been trained to live this way by Chiara Lubich who shared with us her meditation on Scripture this way: She marveled at the fact that a persons literacy--his ability to read and write, is based on knowing and mastering only 26 letters of the alphabet! She said that knowing these 26 letters at heart, you learn to read words, put together words, write sentences or paragraphs or books or even epics! In the same way, she said, one word of scripture is = to the entire scripture and living it educates you and forms you in the Christian life.
