A Wayne Rooney brace leads England past Scotland 3-1 in the longest running international match in football history in Glasgow. In a pretty hotly but for the most part fairly contested match, England showed they are still looking like a slightly better side than the vastly improved Scottish side under Gordon Strachan as Hodgson led his men to a sixth successive win since the debacle in Brazil. The first goal came from two Arsenal men combining as Jack Wilshere hit Alex Oxlade-Chamberlin with an equisite flighted ball which the Arsenal attacker guided into the corner of the Scottish net with a beautifully weighted glancing header just after the half hour mark giving England a lead which they fully deserved. The sides went into the break at 1-0 England but it was only a few minutes after the restart that Captain Rooney was in on the act as he reacted lighting fast to head in a deflected shot by Wilshere. Scotland did pull one back after a passage of spirited play through a close range finish from Robertson who gave the Scotland faithful some hope with a close-range finish with less than ten minutes left to play. But it was Captain Rooney who had the last laugh as he notched his 46th England goal (leaving him just 3 behind the legendary Bobby Charlton) as he finished off a incisive England move with a thumping finish to give the 3 Lions a 3-1 win which on the whole was a fair result for the game. Scotland looked good in parts and it was great to see Uniteds Darren Fletcher back on the field for the Scots but it was Rooney who earned the plaudits with his emphatic finish and somersault celebraton on a good night for England. On the plus side for Scotland they were the first team to put a goal past England in 6 games since the 3 Lions lost to Luis Suarez and Uruguay in the World Cup but it was definitely Captain Rooneys night which bodes well for the weekend trip to Arsenal. #MUFC
