A Wells Fargo & Co./Harris Interactive survey shows that a third of Americans think that theyll never be able to retire, working until knocked out of the workforce by illness or death. Day-to-day expenses, distrust of the stock market and lack of a written plan or will power all play into the mix. With government and a few select trades the last bastions of guaranteed retirement , the forces for and against public pensions use data like this to bolster their respective positions. Pro changers: Its not fair for taxpayers to subsidize a benefit that they dont receive themselves, particularly at the expense of public services. Anti changers: Proof that more people should have pensions, not fewer. It was a mistake to let private industry dump traditional retirement benefits 30 years ago. Your thoughts?
