A Whiter Shade of Pale is the debut single by English rock band Procol Harum, released May 12th 1967 through Deram Records, reaching #1 on the UK Singles Chart on June 8th 1967, staying there for six weeks, reaching #5 on the US charts. It is one of the counterculture anthems of the 1967 Summer of Love, and one of fewer than 30 singles to have sold over 10 million copies worldwide. In 1977, the song was named joint winner (along with Queens Bohemian Rhapsody) of the Best British Pop Single 1952–1977 at the Brit Awards. In 1998 the song was inducted into the Grammy Awards. ~wikirock
