A Work In Progress: A little less than four years ago, we created this Facebook page. We were not certain just what purpose it might serve other than as an additional communications tool for our membership. By November of 2010 our Facebook family numbered less than 400. Then, of course came the election of governor Kasich and his observation that the collective bargaining law was “low hanging fruit” ripe for the picking. What followed was the Kasich runaway bus carrying SB#5, and the destruction of public service collective bargaining. After the passage of SB#5 the purpose of our Facebook became defined by the issue of survival. Our Facebook page determined to “speak truth to power”; reach out for other public service Unions; their members; and men and women of good will who support Ohio’s public service workers. We were well received, Issue #2 went down to a stinging defeat, and our few hundred Facebook members turned into thousands. Today, we are able to report with pride that more than 16,000 women and men count themselves as friends of our Facebook page. With our growth has come continued and expanded responsibility to speak truth to power. .........This November, once again the future of first responders and all public service workers and their families will be tested at the polls. We have felt from the beginning that social media is the wild card of future elections. It is the only effective counterweight to the unlimited millions of dollars available to those who see Ohio as simply a business profit stream……We would like to take this opportunity to than all of our Facebook family for determining that this page merits your support. We will try never to let you down.
