A Wrong Mind-Set! The disciples still did not understand the suffering of Christ while they walked with Jesus. As we have seen in Luke 24:21-26 it would take the death and resurrection of Christ before their eyes were opened. We have also seen that they did not fully understand Gods program for His Church in contrast to the nation of Israel. (Acts 1:6). They did not understand that the body of Christ would not distinguish between Jew and Gentile, for they would in Christ be one body (Ephesians 3:3-6). This mind-set kept them from preaching Jesus to the Gentiles in the early days of the Church (Acts 11:19). The better we understand Scripture the better we understand God, ourselves, and our ministry to others. The amazing thing is that God will be patient with us just as He was with the disciples. Sad to say, all of us have areas where we allow a mind-set or personal bias to cloud our interpretation of Scripture. None of us have perfect insight to all Scripture. Thank God, He is patient with us. Consider that in both storms the disciples had some incorrect theology, a mind-set, and a possible bias against Gentiles, yet Jesus was patient with them. In fact, storms constantly put our theology to the test in order that we might better understand God and His ways.
