A bad thing happened... I saw an episode of Ax men. It motivated me to post the following on my web page in an effort to let the rest of world know the truth about the professionalism of our fine trade these days. Feel free to copy and paste.... With a touch of insomnia, I found myself watching Ax men on TV. What a horrible show. The timber business in no way resembles this insanity portrayed to sell commercials. The industry is very professional these days and the rate of accidents have fallen dramatically. So many common safety procedures are broken on this show that I am surprised they are allowed to operate (much less let someone film these horrific accidents). I know of no sawmills who would want any of these crews and their liabilities on their properties. Also, for the record, the crews chosen to film are encouraged to fight constantly. The show has tried to hire so many crews to view but they have a hard time finding crews who act in the entertaining, unsafe and idiotic ways this show portrays. These days, timber crews are professional multi-talented and trained, conscience employees who love their work. They take regular safety courses to save lives and lower injuries and insurance rates. They are horticulturalists who promote great environmental hygiene to encourage the growth of valuable timber. They are business men who invest a lot of money through tough markets. They are master mechanics. Already, this note is getting to long too read so my rant is over... but what the show is a disgrace to many hard working conscience individuals who bring the many benefits of wood from fine furniture, cabinets, guitars and toilet paper to so many across our great country and the entire world.
