A beautiful day at the Gettysburg National Military Park, this time with my nephew Landon Rosenboom, of Clifton IL. This view is from the observation tower at the southwest corner of the park looking north northeast. The Pennsylvania Memorial is to the right of center and the US Congress Memorial is the spire in the center. Picketts charge ended about 200 yards to the left of there and the Confederates disengaged, ending three days of battle. Statistics vary, but nearly 7,500 fatalities, 33,000wounded, 10,000 missing, and around 5,000 horses and mules killed. There are approximately 1,400 memorials and markers. The Soldiers Memorial at the National Cemetery marks the spot were Lincoln gave his famous address that will survive the ages. The cyclorama, painted by a Frenchman, is 42 high and 377 long and weighs 12 tons.
