A beautiful gesture by Mrs. McLean and her students Tomorrow our thoughts once again turn to the memory of that terrible day. Shepard teacher Erin McLean, however, has found an inspirational outlet for those emotions. Because our students were so young back then, many have only very vague memories of the day. Mrs. McLean and her students will watch a short video and then read an article about the heroes who risked their own safety to help others that day. Later, Mrs. McLean will share her memories, where she was, and how she felt as the events unfolded. Finally, her students will write letters to fire fighters thanking them for their service and bravery. On Friday, they will walk next door to the Palos Heights Fire Station and deliver the notes in person. They also will write letters to the father of Shepard teacher Amanda Flynn. Amandas dad serves with the Chicago Fire Department.
