A big controversy posted on NBC in regards to Child harness leashes being inhumane, treating kids like animals, and humiliating them . . . . . I would never have thought to use one with my oldest daughter who was glued to my side ALL THE TIME. In fact I was the parent giving dissaproving looks to others that used them and would think substitute for instilling manners and acctually parenting . . . .however the birth of my 2nd daughter changed my veiw. My youngest lacks any inhibitions, or fear in crowded public places and her extremely independent nature puts her at risk as she doesnt see the danger around her. This has improved greatly as she has aged and learned boundaries and restraint--- also a skill that is learned and not present at age 2 --- also there are times when Lex is so completely overwhelmed that it is too much stimulation to force a slipperly tightly grasped handhold . . . and I would not want to run the risk of that slippery little fighting hand slipping out and darting into the unknown (now at 4 I dont feel I need to use one in most normal activities but would still use one in very large crowded venue: horse fair, horse expo, state fair perhaps etc) ---And she doesnt seem to meltdown wearing one either . . . I dont know if its because you take that overwhelming sensory addition out of the picture-- but she doesnt fight it or become upset about it the way she would with a forced hand hold all day long, or being restricted to move in a stroller. It allows her the freedom to safetly explore and have a great time. That being said I will gladly smile and take all the bad parent dissaproving stares with a smile on my face as MY childs safety and well being is of more concern to me then your thoughts of my lack of parenting or bad parent label -- and a parent who holds their childs safety at a higher level of importance then being judged by those around them in my book is a great parent. Enough said :)
