A big win in court for The Houston Firefighters’ Relief and Retirement Fund. The 190th District Court has rejected the City of Houstons petition to have the statute governing the firefighters’ pension declared unconstitutional. Mayor Annies Parker had filed the lawsuit last year in an effort to give the city more control over the fund. Fund chairman Todd Clark says he is plaased with the outcome, adding that the suit was filed by the mayor without giving council a chance to vote on it first. The city is responsible for 20 % of the cost of benefits going to retired firefighters with the remaining 80 percent coming from the funds investments and firefighters themselves. The order is final and it dismisses the City’s suit with prejudice
