A biographical closure to one of the most disastrous industrial accidents in the world: the Bhopal Gas Tragedy. Warren Anderson, the then CEO of Union Carbide, the company responsible for the accidents, died today. The true nature of Indian state was clearly visible in the manner in which he jumped bail and ran away to safety to his country in the aftermath of the accident. Arjun Singh, the then Congress Chief Minister of MP, writes in his autobiography how he helped Mr. Anderson to flee in a state government chopper. So much for the sovereignty claims made. :-)) In any case, Mr. Andersons death would not bring closure to the continuing misery of generations of Bhopal citizens. However, they have still been denied to a fair justice. Hopefully, as a society we have learnt lessons from the Bhopal case on how to deal such tragedies and stop their recurrence.
