A bit of a follow up: I continue to be amazed at the generosity of our community. Last week, we told you about 3 bikes that were stolen from the ERM. We were frankly irritated by this occurrence, and we were heartbroken for the guys who lost a very valuable asset - one they rely on in so many ways (job interviews, going to work, looking for housing, etc). You saw this need, and responded in an amazing way: 14 brand new bicycles and a few used bikes were donated. Obviously, the gentlemen whose bikes were stolen are receiving a new bike, and theyre overjoyed! As well, the additional bikes will be used to jumpstart a bicycle loaner program called, Cycles 4 Hope. This program will allow residents to check out a bike for the day. Each bike will have a bar code affixed to it, and theyll be identified as property of the ERM. Finally, we are purchasing new locks & chains for ALL bicycles which are stored at the ERM. These locks and chains are heavy-duty, and will be much more difficult to cut.
