A bit of light reading for those not on the email trail. IBSA is struggling for numbers for Div.1 billiards comp next year. These are some of the emails which are attempting to remedy the situation. If youre interested please read from the bottom up. Please tag anyone who you think may be interested. Any takers? Dave Bryza Greenhalgh Nilal Kulatunga Stephen Foard Marrie Young Johnny Bermudez Daz van Duin Marko Cajna Nathan White Thats Great news Steve, thank goodness we have a competition, I was getting very worried about the future. Just one thing though. You have a couple of mistakes in the hanicap table. you have A division 1 Player playing a B-25 gets 25 start it should be 50 not 0 and you hav A Diviosn 1 Player playing a B-50 gets 0 start it should be 50 not 25 you have Division 1 -25 playing a div 2 -75 giving 0 start when a div 1 scr player gives 25 start Should be 50 Start you have a Division 1-50 giving a div 2-75 only 25 start Should be 75 Start you have a division 1-75 player a div 2-75 only 50 start Should be 100 Start you have a div 1 -100 player only giving 75 start Should be 125 Start you have a div 1-125 only giving a div 2-75 100 start. Should be 150 Start I think the table is wrong i hope the above helps you to fix the handicap table. BTW I was under the impression that we voted for all Division 1 players to be equal but I agree with the handicaps. Good work tSteve, I do agree the better players need to give Division 2 players more start than an ordinarydivision 1 player so as not to dicourage them not to play division 1 billiards . And whats more important by doing this the regarding next year will have a linear scale to work off. Hello all, Thanks everybody for their input. To put you all at ease I have had a discussion with Len Parker and he has officially confirmed with me that he will put a Division 1 Billiard team in the competition next year. That will make it a 4 team competition. Thank you Adrian for your offer. Great minds must think alike. I think Dapto would struggle to field a div.1 side regardless of rules, given our player base. One thing I would add is that I didnt see the removal of handicaps on any of the rule change proposal emails I received. Yours in cuesport Dave Young Adrian I suggested this same format 20 years ago, as it is similar to how competition squash is played. I have said for so long that handicaps do not encourage more players. Good gradings do. It is sad to see the demise of the game of billiards but this is not just happening in the Illawarra. Competitions not unlike our 1 & 2 table competitions have been introduced sometime ago in the Canberra and some Sydney regions. There is no easy solution to this, but I feel there should be more input into the association by the better players in the top grade. The sport has given them so much over the years and I feel its time they gave something back. Its hard enough as you all know just to keep tables in a club let a lone getting committees formed. Come on guys dig deep and have a go instead of hoping things just happen. Yours in sport. David Reilly Hi all, In regards to this proposal I am of the opinion that the Division 1 Billiards should be handicapped. As for Adrians proposals I agree with Mick Batellics opinion that Adrians 1 and 2 suggestions should be applied. Adrian I dont feel that someone from outside of the committee is needed to run Division 1 Billiards but by all means if you want to join the IBSA committee then you should definitely put your hand up for it in the right manner. By only having three teams interested is in no way the fault of the IBSA in my opinion as the rule change was done at the AGM with the vote of fellow members. However if due to this rule change that there is no Division 1 Billiards being run for 2015 then hopefully common sense prevails and we see a revised handicap system brought back in. If this is the only option to get more teams interested and in turn make the competition viable then so be it. Im not sure however that I can get a Division 1 team representing Dapto Leagues and even if I could I feel that it would only be if it were to involve handicaps. I understand where you are coming from Steve about playing for the love of the game but realistically playing every week making up numbers and sitting on your behind for most of your games getting belted by players isnt the most fun way to spend a Monday night. Especially when it involves a non preferred cue sport. I dont feel its a win at all costs attitude though. The no handicaps worked well in Division 1 Snooker this year as realistically 6 or 7 teams had a team that could have won it but billiards is a different beast where Wests, Shellys and Builders all have 3 or 4 accomplished Billiard players in their teams. All three sides are pretty even but all three are streets ahead of a possible team from Bomaderry or Dapto. in saying all this it would be a shame to not see a division 1 Billiard comp being played. Regards, Nathan White Hi Adrain and all, I dont want to panic react to this situation. Thanks for the offer but we have other options. I dont recall ever having somebody run Division 1 and dont think we should go down that road at this stage. There are other options.. Dapto leagues are looking at putting in a team. This will make 4 teams. We have run the competition with 4 teams before. If players are refusing to participate due to them not getting handicaps then are they really interested in playing the game or are they there just to win at all cost. I thought we played the game for the love of it and the comraderie amongst players. To not play because I cant win is pretty shallow in my opinion. I intend to wait to see what transpires with Dapto. Thanks again Adrian. Your offer is appreciated. So here is a copy of it. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Dear Committee and Players It saddens my greatly to see that there will be no Division 1 Billiards competition next year. This is what needs to happen. As the handicaps have got out of hand because of B graders having to have to play to 300. 1) The Division 1 players handicaps have to be revised. 2) The Division 2 players have to have their handicaps on the board. 3) The Order of play has to be restricted acording to handicap. Example:- The best graded player in the team has to play 1st or 2nd The second best Player can play 1st 2nd or 3rd ( one place up or one place down) same with the 3rd player and then the 4 lowest handicap player in the team has to play 3rd or 4th. If a team has 2 players on the same handicap the captain must decide what order his players will play in at the start of the season for the whole season. I put this proposal to the Committee and the Players for the benifit of the game. I am willing to put my hand to go on the IBSA committee to run the Division 1 Billiards. I am asking the players and the committee to give me this one chance and put thier support behind me for the benifit of the game. PLEASE WE NEED HANDICAPS TO HAVE A COMPETITION PLEASE GIVE ME A GO. Kind Regards Adrian Hinks
