A bit o’ green in honor of Saint Patrick’s Day. The late - TopicsExpress

A bit o’ green in honor of Saint Patrick’s Day. The late afternoon light of summer illuminates trees growing on the bank of the Little River. Vegetation is to Great Smoky Mountains National Park what granite domes and waterfalls are to Yosemite and geysers are to Yellowstone. Variations in elevation, rainfall, temperature, and geology in these ancient mountains provide ideal habitat for over 1,500 species of flowering plants, including 100 native tree species and over 100 native shrub species. These old mountains definitely know how to do green! Photo by Kristina Plaas, © 2013 all rights reserved.
