A boy from Arunachal Pradesh is brutally beaten up by around 8 - TopicsExpress

A boy from Arunachal Pradesh is brutally beaten up by around 8 men, in the streets of Lajpat Nagar. The policemen come, take him to the police station and after a while, put him back to the same place. The next day, reports of his death outspread. And the reason to all this. The offenders made fun of the boys hair color, to which he retaliated, and next, they battered him to death. Does this really give a valid account of everything that happened? This is not a pristine thing to say that discrimination has become a detrimental trite. We ,Northeast Indians, dont want to feel and project ourselves as victims but one cannot help feeling so when you are reminded of your different-ness day in and out. On the bus, auto, college, markets, malls. Almost everywhere. There are many manifold and untold issues that the Northeasterns have to recount. Most days we got to say to ourselves, “Grin and bear it!” and yes. We get used to it and have lived with it. But there lies the irony. Why should we have to live with it?We are mostly questioned about our identity. Now why do we have to carry an invisible but obvious tag and have to get used to certain treatments, just because we hail from the Northeast of India? Isnt India a country with cultural diversity ? Why is there so much prejudice, labelling and discrimination? Tenzin Droma
