A brief synopsis of the todays heady events: 1. A fantastic panel discussion at the Copper Room to explore ways going forward with the San Diego Opera, run by Nicolas Reveles, Marc Scorca of Opera America, and David Devan of the Philadelphia Opera. Enlightening, informative, and civil. Attended by ~500 passionate, enthusiastic souls. 2. News of a tumultuous SDO board meeting and shakeup (no specifics yet). As a result, Carol Lazier is the new interim board president, and Karen Cohn, Faye Wilson (who is reported to have shouted, Those idiots! as she was leaving), along with more than a few other members of the Campbell entourage, left the meeting in a huff and are reported to have resigned. The Campbells also left in a huff, but we do not know if they are still a part of the organization. Overall, it looks like good progressive ideas were circulated, and a major battle in the war to save the San Diego Opera was won, thanks largely to the efforts of the White Knight Committee.
