A bumper grid for eps rd 5 saw 29 karts take the grid including a lot of returning and new teams. Champions and ex champions everywhere you looked up and down the grid meant that we had a lot more quality on show. We had a fairly hassle free prep aside from a blowing fuel pump in one of the engines and some setup decisions on the rear gave us a chance to get both drivers settled in however a collision between Pete Brien and a couple of colliding karts ahead meant that we had to cut testing short, replace both damaged stub axles, laser align the wheels and shake down the changes. Qualification came and we switched Ian Alexander into sprint mode. 30minutes of attack the clock and he came in shattered but claimed 10th. A result made more impressive when 7th-21st were covered by less than a second. In what seemed like seconds we were forming up with a Marshall who clearly couldnt read the gridding sheet correctly so we gridded up ourselves and watched with mirth as people asked where they were, tried to correct the guy then walk away with a shaking head. Sir, you had 1 job. The race started to plan, we got our spare stop in early to let Ian monster the back markers but an hour in our lap timer was trying to exit the steering wheel it was bolted to. So we had to make an unscheduled stop 30minutes before our fuel window, a load of electrical tape later wed dropped from 15th to 19th. 30minutes later Ian came in for fuel, a slick stop followed including checking for and looseness at the front, Pete joined the circuit in 21st with 90 minutes left to salvage our race. While what followed wasnt quite from the school of Gaugler, a lesson in powering through the field Pete gapped the karts behind and kept a good enough pace to take advantage of karts ahead loosing positions, we finished 17th not too far off the 10th -15th bracket I thought wed be. The bonus is that we scored some good points and were 10th in the championship, with the ability to improve with 2 rounds left!
