A bunch of doctors called their representatives in the house and whined about ICD10 and they slid this into the bill. It is a lose lose. It passes and ICD10 is delayed, but physician fee schedules dont drop somewhere in mid 20% and stays the same as it has been since the beginning of the year. Dont pass it and we still have ICD10 10/1 and the fee schedule drops in the mid 20% area because of the many years of kicking the can down the road of ignoring the SGR fee schedule changes that was supposed to take place each year. But with this bill, the fee schedule does not permanently fix tying the fee schedule to the SGR. So, next year, if there is no fix, the fees drop near 30%. The AMA has been asking for a permanent fix, which stops tying the fees to the SGR. Congress was supposed to do that permanent fix this year. But they dropped that ball and it did not happen. And such, it is a lose lose. The wrong fix to the fee schedule and delaying ICD10 or not fixing the fee schedule temporarily and leaving ICD10 alone Also: This would represent a lot of layoffs and more employment opportunities lost in our industry. Facilities and practices have hired people just for ICD10
