A bushfire ADVICE has been issued for people in Nowegup, Ridgewood and Butler between Romeo Road and Hester Avenue in the City of Wanneroo. • There is no current threat to lives or homes but there is a lot of smoke in the area o Although there is no immediate danger you need to be aware and keep up to date in case the situation changes. WHAT TO DO: Stay alert and monitor your surroundings. o Watch for signs of a bushfire, especially smoke and flames. o Close all doors and windows, and turn off evaporative air conditioners but keep water running through the system if possible. o Read through your bushfire survival plan. o If you do not have a plan decide what you will do if the situation gets worse. • • WHAT FIREFIGHTERS ARE DOING: o Firefighters are actively fighting to get the fire under control o Hundreds of career and volunteer Fire and Rescue Service, Bush Fire Service, Volunteer Fire Service and Department of Parks and Wildlife firefighters are on the scene. o Aerial support has been sent to assist ground crews and protect crews and homes. EXTRA INFORMATION: o The fire was reported at 9.23am today (10 January 2015) and currently there has been 900 hectares burnt. o Telephone text and voice messages have been issued to the area bounded by Cyprus Road, Wanneroo Road, Flynn Drive, Neaves Road, Old Yanchep Road, Yanchep Beach Road, Nisa Road, Perry Road and WAndoo Road. o The cause of the fire is unknown. o DFES is managing the fire.
