A client recently mentioned the frustration of injuries and called us fragile. Itd be easy for me to accept that explanation. After all, Im the same guy that has broken his back , torn every single ligament in one knee, torn up my shoulder, hamstring, and broken more than a few bones along the way. But I dont think any of this is a bad thing. Heres what I told him. -- Were not fragile: were human. Flawed and beautiful. Limited and limitless. Its what I love about what I do: If we come to terms and realize that we are human (we have limitations, injuries happen, we get busy, well hit plateaus) then it opens us to a world where we can anticipate bumps and see them as part of the quest. Our job is not to avoid them, but to endure them and continue on the path to success. Thats what fires me up every day. How can you not be excited by a reality where you know that even when youre must take a step back, youre always just one flip of the switch to be moving forward once again? I like that because it embraces the struggle and makes success a realistic goal for everyone. As long as youre going in the right direction more days than not, youll end up in a good place.
