A close friend questioned my sanity and spiritual convictions this morning when I explained to them why we will NOT: give up on our little church, abandon our members, stop loving those who have hurt us, pretend to be perfect and somehow above lay people, or stop demanding social justice for all. While this person agrees that everyone is welcome at Gods table and that in a perfect world, all churches would welcome gays and let them marry in the church its just too much to ask of straight American Christians. I must have been singing that Sunday School song wrong all these years... They will know we are Christians by our... anger? exclusivity? willingness to do what is the easiest to get people in the pews? T-shirts, right? Definitely our t-shirts and timeline memes. Larry and I have known for a long time now that we are straight, American and Christian. And I dont know if this even makes sense at this hour, but sometimes when God asks you to do something that seems too much to ask, really AMAZING things happen and you find yourself not asking if some of the burden can be taken away because its just too much, but asking God, is it even close to enough?
