A common question I get when people figure out that Im of Samoan descent, they ask me: How do Samoans know how to sing so well? I enjoy singing but I do not claim to know the best way to sing or that I sing that great. However, if anything is credited to me may it be all to the glory of God. Ive learned to enjoy the compliments of people (without getting a big head about it) and attempt to answer their question by pointing them back to how Samoans, and mostly all Polynesians, were raised - before a written language, or notes that could capture the notes from our songs, we only had our voices.
