A common theory of direct action states that the purpose of any direct actions is, in part, to raise the cost of doing nothing. In essence to non-violently bring people in off the fence. It is not vain attempt to irritate as many people as possible. It is a conscious and strategic decision to agitate as many people to act against the status quo as possible. For many, direct action stems from the belief that most people, if they spend more than a causal second to think about an issue, will side with justice for their neighbor. Rather than writing off protestors as lazy naive young people that should just get a job, perhaps you should consider why people might be putting their bodies in danger and risking arrest to get your attention. #blacklivesmatter
