A common trait I see holding back the potential of some - TopicsExpress

A common trait I see holding back the potential of some *brilliant* friends and colleagues is indecisiveness. I feel your pain, as this is something I still struggle with but have gotten much better at in my short time on this wonderful planet. Two (unlikely?) sources of inspiration that helped me become more proactive and intentional with my decision-making over the past few years: 1) Brad Pitts character in World War Z: https://youtube/watch?v=j7q_w6IJ8pw I used to work in some dangerous places. The people who moved survived, and those that didnt... Movimiento es vida. - Movement is life. Make a decision, any decision, but KEEP MOVING. Adjust as you go with action, action, action. Dont stagnate in your what ifs, your unfounded worries, your anxieties. Theyre not real. The world is real. How you interact with the world/zombies, and them with you, is real. Test sh*t out before you close your mind off to what is and isnt possible. Potential energy is useless if not turned kinetic. 2) This scene between Jacob and The Man in Black from the TV show LOST: https://youtube/watch?v=Iv7J5TO7t-w Man in Black: They come, fight, they destroy, they corrupt. It always ends the same. Jacob: It only ends once. Anything that happens before that? Its just progress. We have a tendency to assign too much weight to single decisions, and not enough weight to many decisions made over time. Jacobs line has been a constant source of HOPE since I first heard it, especially with how jacked up the world is these days. Read a history book. Read the old testament in the Bible. All this crap has happened before, over and over, and WERE STILL HERE. A fatalistic attitude is unproductive. With any decision youre facing, think about this: will making it one way or another kill you? Will you die? Is it the end of the world? Probably not. So just make one and MOVE ON with your life. Because anything that happens before the very end is progress. Lights. Camera. Action. Your move.
