A concerned mom, Sheri Orr, writes: Can you imagine a US History course without key figures like Ben Franklin or James Madison? Or a course that no longer focuses on America as a land of liberty, opportunity, and democracy, but instead teaches America “was built on a belief in white racial superiority and a sense of American cultural superiority.” (Taken directly from the AP Framework.) How about a 98 page course description that includes only one sentence on the Declaration of Independence? How about a course that omits the Pilgrims and their pursuit of religous freedom but instead focuses on European exploitation that led to native decline and black bondage? You dont have to worry about imagining it. Its reality. Welcome to our new AP US History course that will be taught this fall. Critics thoughts are here: news.heartland.org/newspaper-article/2014/03/26/new-advanced-placement-framework-distorts-americas-history And here: education-curriculum-reform-government-schools.org/w/2014/01/new-college-board-us-history-takeover-american-exceptionalism-out-flaws-in-part-1/ The actual 98 page Framework is here: media.collegeboard/digitalServices/pdf/ap/ap-course-exam-descriptions/ap-us-history-course-and-exam-description.pdf It really is a depressing read. This interpretation of American history shows our origination as solely one of exploitation and bondage. If your child takes this class, please supplement their learning with the actual writings of the Founders of this great country. The biggest problem with how history is taught today is we rely on the opinions of historians, clearly negative in this case, rather than an evaluation by the student of original documents. You can speak up against it by writing your local school board and state department of education.
