A consideration regarding sowing the seed: Jesus was the - TopicsExpress

A consideration regarding sowing the seed: Jesus was the original seed sower in Matthew 13. He sowed the seed as He went, but He did nothing to the soil. It fell where it did. Later, others sowed the seed. Today, believers sow the seed. We are to sow the seed as Jesus sowed it. Because of human arrogance, man is often tempted to think that by his education or technology, he can improve the soil. Or, he is tempted to think he can make the seed grow differently in the soils than what is declared in scripture. Prejudice in man makes him think that he can prejudge the soil and more efficiently sow the seed where he thinks it is most likely to grow. But, the truth is, the soil is the soil and we cannot judge the soil. Even watching the soil for a while does not reveal the type of soil. However, the type of soil does become evident in time. Sometimes you will sow the seed of the Word and people will not respond at all. You can preach to people, cry for them and do everything to try to “make” them receive the seed. But, they never will. They have hearts that are as hard as pavement and they will not change. Other times, you will sow the seed and the people will take it in quickly. But, they are like those disciples in John 6:66 who left when the teaching got tough. They could not take the heat. So, some of the people you share the word will take it in like a sponge, but then, depart from it almost as quickly as they received it. There is nothing you can do about it. You cannot make them have depth. Others will receive the word, but they have so any ties to this world that the sprouted seed will be choked out by the cares that they have. You cannot weed out their garden. They, like the man in Matthew 19 love this world and every evidence of the presence of the seed being sowed is covered over and it is choked out by the entanglements of this life. They go away in a very sad state. Finally, you sow the seed and it actually grows. It may grow fast at times and slow at other times, but it grows. You water it and it grows. What was the difference? It was not the talent of the sower. It was not the manner in which it was sowed. It was the nature of the soil. It was their heart. As much as you want to, you cannot change their heart. Jesus did not change people’s hearts who did not receive Him. But, for those who received Him, He gave them the power to become……..sons of God. Dear friends, sow the seed! Do not worry about what you cannot change. You cannot even know what the soil is like in a person ahead of time. Do your job; sow the seed. In time, if the soil is good, it will grow and reproduce 100, 60 or 30 fold.
