A contour special disc planter with the “wow factor’’ took out the coveted Tractor and Machinery Association of Australia award at Henty yesterday. The TMA award recognises the best new Australian designed and built agricultural machine and is judged by Henty Machinery Field Days directors. It was presented by TMA director Greg Crawford to NDF field service and southern area sales representative Andrew Garwood, of Narromine, NSW. Released at Agquip, the fully flexible NDF disc planter was debuted in the southern region at Henty. Mr Garwood said the machine had more than nine foot of allowable frame twist, making easy work of tricky paddocks for summer and winter broadacre cropping. “The frame is designed with gullies, melon holes and contour banks in mind,’’ he said. “NDF has developed this machine at the request of growers who struggle to plant their crops evenly over undulations, or in some cases have their machines crack up over time due to the stresses encountered by machinery as it travels over these areas.’’ The disc planter also received praise from judges during the Henty Machine of the Year Award. Mr Garwood said the NDF offered ergonomic improvement in seedbeds and over contour banks, contributing to the grower’s bottom line. He said it was a last minute decision to enter the MOTY award. “The machine was designed by NDF principal Dale Foster and there was a lot of head scratching to get it right,’’ Mr Garwood said. “This is its second public showing and it is certainly has the wow factor, creating a lot of national and international interest.’’
