A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has been removing work zone traffic restrictions along Interstate 24 between the 86 and 93 mile marker in Christian County whenever possible over weekends through the summer months. Due to recent rain delays, the contractor plans to leave this work zone up and active this coming weekend. On Saturday concrete work will continue along the eastbound lanes of this work zone. On Sunday diamond grinding will start along the westbound lanes of this work zone. This weekend work activity and associated lane restrictions may create traffic congestion for both eastbound and westbound motorists along I-24 between the US 41-Alternate Interchange and the Kentucky-Tennessee State Line. Appropriate caution is required. Traffic issues are most likely to occur along the eastbound lanes on Friday from about 3:00 p.m. to about 7:00 p.m. when there is a surge in eastbound traffic. To avoid delays, local motorists and commercial traffic that normally travels this busy section of I-24 might want to consider an alternate route during peak travel periods. About 37,000 vehicles travel this section of I-24 in an average day. As a reminder, there continue to be active work zones with lane restrictions on Interstate 24 from the 10 to 16 mile marker in McCracken County, and from the 38 to 45 mile marker in Lyon County.
