A council policy seminar will be held on Monday 31st March 2014 at 2p.m. – 4p.m. in the Council Chamber at the Civic Centre, Pontypool. This seminar will be delivered in two parts: PART 1 Part 1 is on charging for pre application advice. It will assist you in gaining an understanding of the reasons and implications of introducing charges for pre application advice and how this will affect customers. Fees are to be introduced within the next month. Part 1 will cover the following key points: 1. Part of budget saving exercise 2. No statutory duty to provide pre-application advice but encouraged by Welsh Government 3. Can no longer sustain free service. Reasonable to recover some of the associated costs of providing the service. 4. No charge for householder pre application advice? 5. Cease offering advice on the need for planning permission ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ PART 2 Part 2 is on the proposed land reclamation and coal extraction at Varteg Hill. This is an opportunity for members to receive an update on this controversial proposal. Part 2 will cover the following key points: 1. Inform members of pre application inquiry 2. Review recent appeal decision 3. Future steps towards submission of an application
