A couple days ago I decided to take a 10 mile hike through the backcountry of Yellowstone. Throughout the hike I was wondering how I would react and handle myself if I was confronted by a bear, alone, in the middle of nowhere. About a mile left in the hike on an extremely narrow trail, a little bird of some kind scattered off the trail and into the brush. Then from the deeper brush something began charging straight in my direction. Whatever it was, it was clear it was coming for me. I picked up the pace and from out of the brush comes the worlds biggest owl (probably average size) flapping its wings in full pursuit. Well, I completely panicked and began running down the narrow rocky, root filled trail (with an over packed back pack) doing everything I could to not trip while looking over my shoulder at this ridiculously angry, aggressive owl. Its beak was scary. After being chased by about 40 yards and panicking like a scared little girl, I think its safe to say that if that were in fact a bear, I would not be writing this right now. Owl handle that better next time.
