A couple of Quick notes on my Beaune trip: We had so much fun that we were already planning our next trip while we were still there. Our apartment near Ma Cuisine was great. I even liked the cheesy Italian wine barrel across the street. Two regrets- We didnt get to bike the canals, although we did bike to Meursault and back. We will do that next time. Also, I saw a great Super Bourguignon T Shirt for my son. But the store was closed each time I went by. Maybe next trip. Ma Cuisine was fantastic. The food was excellent, and chocolate pie was one of the best desserts I have ever had. The couple who runs it are great, and were very tolerant of Samuel who was having a rare bad night. They saw us the next day and waved hello. This is a MUST go to. LA Comptier les Tontons was very good. Weird atmosphere, though- amazingly loud inside. At least we didnt have to worry about Samuel yelling- no one could hear. But the food was very good. Our first night we needed a quick meal, and since it was Monday almost everything recommended here was closed. We ate at a tourist spot on Carnot Square called Dame Martin, I think. Our landlord brought us there. The food was excellent, and they had the best cheese plate we had all trip, believe it or not. We saw the owner shopping for vegetables at the farmers market one morning so I think he wants his food to stand out a bit. Certainly, no complaints. Caves Madeline was very disappointing. The food was good, but not outstanding. The menu was very unimaginative. My wife ordered the chicken, and that is exactly what her meal was. A chicken breast covered in a cream sauce bearing no flavor. Nothing else. No vegetables, sides or anything else. I will say their sorbet at the end of the meal was the best I have ever had anywhere. We got the last order, then they took it off the board and had no more desserts the rest of the night. I feel sorry for everyone else there, since we were the second table to order, almost no one got the chance to have it (or any dessert).
