A couple of days ago I bought a long, deep, rectangular plastic planter box that was on sale (probably about 30 long by 12 wide by at least 8 deep), realizing that I could easily grow at least 4 heads of lettuce in it, clean and reuse it for a lot of seasons, move it around the yard if I need to, and save in-ground space for vegies that dont tolerate container planting very well. Too late for this latest round of lettuce, which Ive already planted in-ground, but perhaps Ill get a fall crop going. Dont forget to think about this alternative when youre planning use of your space - more vegies can grow in containers than you would think.
