A couple of days ago, Mom and I spent a full 90 minutes Skyping with a mid-20s cousin in Ukraine. This was our second such conversation, only 3 times longer! Mom is his Facebook friend, and follows what is going on with the country as best she can with Bings horrible translations, and occasional posts in English. She also follows his father, and has previously emailed with his grandfather. Slavas English is quite good, so we had no problem communicating. What a difference these kinds of technology make! They have certainly changed the way we can learn about each other. Mom has many family pictures on the wall, as well as some from a trip to Moscow in the 80s that we shared with him. Now we need to find the family tree a bunch of cousins started on a paper tablecloth years ago, to show him the connections (and to show ME!)
