A couple of days ago we got a visitor. A rare event here ,but what was so awesome and special about this man was he cycled 100,s of kilometres to see us. His name is Klaus and he is one of the most extraordinary and inspirational men I know and I absolutely adore him. The first time we met he was travelling around Australia with a tiny 4wd that had no engine and had been converted into a camel wagon, which his two camels pulled. He didnt have a destination, each day was an adventure and living like this was his life. He is 66 years old and last year he retired his camels, who are now being looked after on a beautiful property and he bought a bike. I couldnt believe the adventures he has been up too since we last met as he cycles across Europe, visiting Israel,Turkey and going to all sorts of countries most would be too scared to go to because of their unrest and volatility. He stops and share and connects with people everywhere he goes. One of the stories he told us was about a couple who have lived in Rome train station for 9 years because they have been displaced from their own war torn country and have no legal status anywhere else and no money. The wife sleeps at night ,whilst the husband protects her and during the day its his turn to sleep, I feel quite teary thinking of this couple, and they were not the only ones living like this! I pray that something happens to help them and they receive the haven they deserve. Klaus travels with little money and everything he gets ,he gives away. He says he gets more joy from giving and over the years he has given away so much because everyone gives to him. He lives simply, sleeping out,if its raining he finds a bridge to shelter under but he has so many stories of peoples hospitality and once he even stayed in a royal palace. Klaus reckons that people focus on the negative way to much. He reminded us that there are kind and loving and giving people everywhere and when he goes somewhere he wont listen to the warnings,or the fear mongering. He takes every place as it comes, heart open and he brims with stories of kindness and love. I hope Klaus does get his book written because this man is a true inspiration and I am blessed to call him a friend!
